How to promote a business in Facebook groups in Israel

4 min read

In Israel, Facebook groups are still one of the first places people look for an apartment, a used car, a tradesperson or a recommendation for a local business. A good post in the right group can bring inquiries the same day, with no ad budget. This guide covers how to choose groups, how to write a post people reply to, and how to keep a steady pace without spending an hour on it every morning.

Choose groups by audience, not by member count

A group with hundreds of thousands of members looks tempting, but if hundreds of posts go up there every day, yours will drop out of the feed within minutes. A small neighbourhood or city group often brings more relevant inquiries.

Before you join, check three things:

  • Activity: when the last post went up, and whether people comment on posts.
  • Fit: whether the people posting there are your customers. In "Apartments for rent in Haifa" people are looking for an apartment; in an entrepreneurs' group most members are looking for customers themselves.
  • Posting policy: whether business posts are allowed, and on which days.

Read the group rules before your first post

Most groups have written rules in the "About" tab. Some allow promotion only on one day a week, some ban links, and in some every post needs an admin's approval. People who ignore the rules find their post deleted, and sometimes find themselves removed from the group. Keep a list of your groups and the rules of each one.

Write a post people reply to

The feed shows only the first lines of a post, so they need to say what you offer, where and for how much. "3-room apartment in Neve Sha'anan, ₪4,200, available now" works better than "An opportunity you can't miss".

  • Add real photos. Stock photos look like an ad, and people scroll on.
  • Give the price, the area and one detail that sets you apart.
  • Offer one clear way to get in touch, usually WhatsApp.
  • Write in plain Hebrew. If a large part of your audience speaks Russian, add a few lines in Russian at the end.

Hebrew text with phone numbers or English words can show up in the wrong order. Check the post on your phone before publishing, and if the order breaks, move the number to a separate line.

Don't post the same text in dozens of groups at once

Facebook limits accounts that publish many identical posts in a short time, and sometimes temporarily blocks posting in groups. Group members also notice when the same post keeps appearing. Spread your posts over the day, change the opening line and the main photo between groups, and don't post in the same group more than once every few days unless its rules allow it.

The Israeli work week runs from Sunday to Thursday. On Friday afternoon and on Shabbat many groups are quieter, and some don't approve posts at all. Check when your audience responds and post at those times.

Use Marketplace too

If you sell a product, an apartment or a car, list it on Marketplace as well. People search there by location and category, and the listing keeps showing after the group post has dropped down the feed. Old listings lose reach, so renew them from time to time.

Reply fast

Someone who comments "interested" or sends a message expects a quick answer, and usually contacts a few other sellers at the same time. Replying within an hour greatly improves your chances of closing. Move the conversation to WhatsApp, where it is easier to send details and arrange things.

The profile you post from

Before they get in touch, many people open the profile or business page of whoever posted, to check that it is real. Use a clear profile photo, a real name and a few recent posts. A new business page with few followers can get a starting base of Facebook page followers or likes so it looks active. This does not increase the reach of your group posts and does not bring inquiries by itself. It only improves the impression for people who already came to check you out.

No time to post by hand: BuzzPost

Posting by hand in dozens of groups takes an hour or more every day, and in a busy week it is the first thing to slip. That is what BuzzPost, our other project, is for. It publishes your listings from your own profile to the groups you choose and to Marketplace, on a schedule:

  • a screenshot of every published post, so you can see what went up and where;
  • inquiries from comments and messages arrive on your WhatsApp;
  • an automatic pause on Shabbat;
  • a dashboard in Hebrew and Russian.

BuzzPost suits real estate agents and landlords best, and local businesses use it too. Automatic posting still means respecting group rules and keeping a reasonable pace.

Questions and answers

How many groups should I post in per day?

There is no fixed number. Start with a few suitable groups, spread the posts over the day and add groups gradually. If Facebook shows a warning or temporarily blocks posting, slow down for a few days.

Can I post the same text in several groups?

Yes, but not all at once. Change the first line and the main photo between groups and spread the posts over the day. Many identical posts in a short time look like spam to Facebook.

Do followers on my business page help my group posts?

Indirectly. They don't increase reach in the group, but people who check your page see an active business rather than an empty page. The inquiries themselves come from the post and from your quick reply.

What is the difference between posting in a group and listing on Marketplace?

A group post reaches the group's members and drops down the feed within hours or days. A Marketplace listing is shown to people searching by location and category and stays available for longer. Use both.
