YouTube views, subscribers or live viewers: which to order
4 min read
YouTube shows three public numbers that people often mix up: views on a video, subscribers on a channel and viewers on a live stream. They measure different things, so the right one to order depends on what a visitor will look at. This article explains the difference and what YouTube does with traffic it considers invalid.
What each number measures
Views belong to one video, subscribers belong to the whole channel, and live viewers exist only while a stream is on.
The view count under a video shows how many times it has been watched. YouTube says it counts views so that they reflect real viewing and can adjust the count later, so the number on a video can also go down after a correction.
The subscriber count under the channel name shows how many people chose to follow the channel, and above a certain size YouTube shows it rounded, for example 1.2K. Subscribers can see new uploads in their Subscriptions feed, and visitors read the number as a sign of how established the channel is.
During a live stream YouTube shows how many people are watching at that moment. When the stream ends, the recording keeps an ordinary view count. If you plan a stream, schedule it in advance in YouTube Studio. A scheduled stream gets its own watch page, which you can share beforehand so that people can set a reminder.
Which number to order for which goal
Order the number that a visitor will check in your situation.
- A video you embed on your website or share in WhatsApp groups: YouTube views, so the video does not look unwatched. Paste the link to the video.
- A channel that customers or partners check before they contact you: YouTube subscribers, with a link to the channel, so it looks established.
- A live stream, for example a launch or a class: live stream viewers from the YouTube section of the price list. Order them after the stream has started, with the link to the stream.
- A video you also promote with ads: views first, and likes in proportion to the views.
Keep the numbers consistent with each other. A channel with 10,000 subscribers whose videos get 50 views each looks abandoned, and a video with 100,000 views on a channel with 30 subscribers looks strange. When you order one number, check how it will sit next to the others on the same page.
Likes and comments show that people reacted. Order likes in proportion to views, with far fewer likes than views, and answer real comments in the first days, since a discussion under a video is something ordered numbers cannot create.
Most orders start within minutes, and each service shows its start time and refill period before you pay. We never ask for access to the channel.
What YouTube does with invalid traffic
YouTube filters views it considers invalid, so part of an ordered amount can disappear from the count later. The same applies to likes and subscribers that YouTube decides are not genuine.
In practice a count can drop after the order is complete. Many YouTube services in the price list include a refill period, and during that period you can request a free top-up from your order list. The details are in our article on drop and refill.
Monetization needs real watch time
Ordered views and subscribers are not a path to monetization, because the YouTube Partner Program counts only valid public watch time and YouTube reviews each channel before approving it. The current thresholds for subscribers and watch hours are published in YouTube Help, and they change from time to time.
Views that YouTube treats as invalid do not count toward those thresholds. Ad revenue also comes from real viewers watching ads, and YouTube does not pay for traffic it considers invalid. Watch time grows from videos that answer a specific question people search for, and from playlists that lead viewers to the next video. Write the title and description in the language your viewers search in. For an Israeli audience that is usually Hebrew, and a Hebrew title also tells visitors from WhatsApp or your website that the video is meant for them. If income from YouTube is your goal, put the budget into videos that hold real viewers, and use ordered numbers only for the first impression a video or channel makes.
Check YouTube Studio first
YouTube Studio shows which videos hold viewers, and those videos are the best candidates for support.
- Average view duration shows how long people stay. A video that loses most viewers in the first seconds needs a new opening more than it needs views.
- Traffic sources show where views come from, for example search or suggested videos.
- Subscribers gained per video show which topics turn viewers into subscribers.
- Returning viewers show how many people come back to the channel.
Support the videos that already do well with a modest number of views, keep the channel and the videos public until the orders are complete, and keep publishing on a schedule.
Questions and answers
Do ordered views count toward YouTube monetization?
Do not count on it. The Partner Program counts only valid public watch time, and YouTube reviews each channel before approving it. Monetization has to come from real viewers.
Which link do I paste for YouTube subscribers?
The link to the channel, for example youtube.com/@name. For views, paste the link to the specific video.
When should I order live stream viewers?
After the stream has started. Paste the link to the live stream and keep the stream running for the whole order.
Why did my view count go down?
YouTube removes views it considers invalid, and counts can be corrected after delivery. If the service has a refill period, you can request a free refill from your order list during that period.
Should I order views or subscribers first?
It depends on what visitors check. For a single video you share or embed, start with views. For a channel that people check before contacting you, start with subscribers.
